Commenting on the news that Borders Rail link will now be delivered by Network rail and Transport Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson and MSP for the South of Scotland Jim Hume said:
"After months and months of speculation, dodge and delay, the Transport Secretary has finally come clean on who will deliver the long awaited Borders Rail link.
"With problem upon problem with external contractors, the Government has had to perform an embarrassing U-turn to get this project back on track. There have obviously been problems with the contractual process and the Scottish Government should have come clean on this earlier on in the process.
""This line is vital for the economic development of Borders and Midlothian communities so I am pleased that the project is now moving again. However it is now the SNP's responsibility to ensure that this project is delivered on time and on budget.
"We need to see an end to the dither and delay and the Scottish Government and Network Rail need to get a line in place that will benefit the communities in the Borders and Midlothian."
