Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, has echoed warnings of Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Leader Tavish Scott that a single centralised police force for Scotland would draw police away from local communities right across the South of Scotland for major events.
The MSP made the comments following the Scottish League Cup Final weekend.
Jim Hume said:
"Police will be called up from across Strathclyde for the League Cup Final, drawing them away from other communities. If the SNP, Labour and Tories had their way, this would be even worse.
"Towns and communities right across the South of Scotland would have fewer police because of a football match in Glasgow.
"The Scottish Liberal Democrats are the only party to oppose this rush to centralise Scotland's police forces.
"The SNP Government's own figures now show how wrong their own plans really are."
