Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, has today reacted to the news that the Fallago Rig Wind Farm Inquiry is to be partially re-opened.
The inquiry will only consider new evidence from the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Jim Hume said:
"For many months now people have been questioning the honesty and openness of the Scottish Government, and have been calling on the Minister to re-open the public inquiry. It's therefore disappointing that this new inquiry will only look at new MOD evidence and will not extend to take into account other evidence.
"Re-opening the entire inquiry would give much needed transparency to the workings of a central government system which has so far has been conducted in a way that people have lost faith and trust in the planning process. The time lapse from the original inquiry until now is so significant that a number of circumstances locally have changed, and therefore it's imperative that any new inquiry considers all new evidence from all interested parties including local people so that the proposal can be viewed in proper context.
"Partially re-opening the inquiry is simply not enough to convince the local population that this proposal will receive a full and fair airing, and I have asked the Energy Minister why he doesn't see fit to seek the views of local authorities and those living in the area.
"The Scottish Government's attitude towards local opinion has been nothing less than contemptuous."
