HAWICK PUPILS ADDRESS THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

May 20, 2009 7:11 PM

Jim Hume MSP, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, today welcomed two sixth year pupils from Hawick High School to the Scottish Parliament to read Time for Reflection in front of MSPs.

Liam Beattie and Rachel Connelly took the opportunity to address MSPs through the regular Wednesday Time for Reflection slot and shared their experiences of a recent visit to Auschwitz.

Jim Hume MSP said:

"Liam and Rachel recently visited Auschwitz and it's clear that they were profoundly moved by what they saw.

"What happened at Auschwitz and other concentration camps should never be forgotten. Liam and Rachel took the chance today to relate past events to modern values about equality and respect for other individuals.

"My congratulations to Liam and Rachel because addressing a chamber full of MSPs must have been a very daunting prospect, but they did very well and spoke eloquently of their experiences."
