Victorious Libdem and South of Scotland MSP, Jim Hume, has declared success after the Liberal Democrats' campaign to save 25% of Scotland's forests from being sold off forced the Scottish Government to make an embarrassing u-turn.
Jim Hume who announced the victory at the Libdem Perth conference said:
"The new Environment Minister has performed the welcome u-turn that Mike Russell was too arrogant to see through.
"Rather than listening to the strength of opposition to this ludicrous plan to sell off Scotland's family silver, Mike Russell resorted to petty and personalised attacks on the Liberal Democrat campaign.
"But I and my fellow Libdems continued to fight to save our forests. Our campaign has triumphed and the Government has finally seen sense.
Jim Hume MSP, who has led the Liberal Democrat campaign continued:
"A unique coalition of timber companies, environmentalists and sports enthusiasts came together to support the Liberal Democrat campaign.
"It's just a shame that the Scottish Government couldn't see the forest for the trees and didn't make this decision earlier.
"This u-turn is down to the sheer hard work and dedication of the thousands of campaigners and Liberal Democrats up and down the country."
