Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, has today commented on the news that from 11pm this evening (20th November) until 7am tomorrow (21st November) the water supply to Chirnside and Foulden will be shut off to repair a rupture in the mains supply.
Scottish Water's emergency helpline number is 0845 601 8855 and people are being urged to store as much water in containers as possible in preparation. They are also being advise not to use dishwashers and washing machines during the shut off period.
Jim Hume said:
"Scottish Water clearly has to repair any damage to the mains supply and people will understand that, but I am concerned that the company should be making facilities available for people who are caught out, even for this short period of shut down time.
"In particular there may very well be elderly or immobile folk who are just not physically able to deal with heavy containers of water and could as a consequence go without.
"I have made that point to Scottish Water and have urgently asked for a water source to be made available in these communities so that no one is left in the lurch."
