Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, has today welcomed plans by the South of Scotland Alliance to kick start a South of Scotland Forum which will launch the new Economic Competitiveness Strategy for the region.
Jim Hume MSP said:
"The formation of a Forum is much needed in the region. This is good news for the South of Scotland.
"A forum will be of huge benefit to the area which faces certain economic challenges, a view endorsed by the recent OECD* report which clearly said that the South of Scotland should have a Forum, created to have similar functions as currently exists in the Highlands and Islands set up.
The MSP continued:
"The Scottish Government favours a model of centralisation which we have seen with Scottish Enterprise.
"A South of Scotland Forum will help to counter the effects of that agenda of centralisation and will help build on the work of the Alliance on the region's economic success."
