Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, has today welcomed the news that planned road improvements in Dumfries and Galloway worth £8 million and brought forward in the previous Scottish Executive are now going ahead.
Jim Hume said:-
"Morrison Construction will construct just under two miles of 'off-line' carriageway alignment to replace the existing, winding road on the west bank of the River Esk.
"This will provide much-needed safety improvements near Auchenrivock on the A7 south of Langholm.
The MSP continued:-
"This multi-million pound scheme is something which the local community has campaigned hard on for some time and will be a major benefit to drivers using the A7 trunk road."
