Jim Hume MSP for the South of Scotland and Shadow Environment spokesperson, has urged the Scottish Government to move forward with plans to encourage the procurement and consumption of more local food, rather than hide behind in consultations and policy exercises.
The consultation on a national food policy is drawing to a close.
Jim Hume said:-
"Ministers are keen to discuss, and in the First Minister's case, publicly consume nothing but local food. Sadly, they appear reticent about taking real action, preferring instead to hide behind consultations and policy exercises.
"The Scottish Government should adopt solid proposals, such as the Liberal Democrat proposal to reform public sector procurement to encourage the purchase of local, healthy, high quality food. These could be incorporated into a strategy that could be taken forward immediately, without any further need for procrastination."
