Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland has today said that people should be on the look out for bogus 'phone callers who try to obtain personal details relating to householders.
Jim Hume said:-
"A constituent in Hawick reported to me that he received a call and during the course of the conversation was told that his wife had given his colleague the incorrect payment details for their renewed car insurance, and could he therefore repeat the details again.
"The constituent knew that the car insurance was not up for renewal and very quickly worked out that the call must have been some sort of scam.
The MSP continued:-
"People should never give out any personal data to anyone whether they're approached in the street, on their doorstep or by 'phone, but unfortunately people are sometimes caught off guard.
"If anyone is unsure they should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 who can provide advice on how to go about reporting scams."
