Speaking in today's Question Time, Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, quizzed Education Secretary on her party's manifesto promise to cut primary class sizes.
Jim Hume said:-
"The SNP promised to reduce all primary 1, 2 and 3 classes to 18, but they failed to say how and when they're going to do this. Furthermore, the Cabinet Secretary did not state categorically when all primary 1, 2 and 3 class sizes would be reduced to 18.
"I asked the Cabinet Secretary to explain how this was going to be achieved and to give assurances that the money was available to create the additional teachers, classroom assistants and classrooms necessary.
The MSP continued:-
"This simply isn't good enough. The Cabinet Secretary did not say when the promise would be met and merely said that the changes would need 'year on year progress', and worryingly she also stated that future budgets would have to be looked at during the next spending review in the autumn.
"We need assurances that the resources needed to fulfil this pledge are not taken away from other vital services at the next spending review."
