Speaking ahead of Thursday's Green Party debate on carbon offsetting, Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, questioned the effectiveness of carbon offsetting schemes in achieving real and significant reductions in carbon emissions.
Jim Hume said:-
"How can the new SNP administration shelve vital public transport plans - whether it's the trams in our capital or the main airport/rail link or indeed the Borders Railway - and simultaneously tackle climate change in any serious way?
"The current administration simply cannot deliver a greener Scotland on its anti public transport and anti renewables stance. We proper action, not socially favourable policies that make people feel good rather than actually achieving significant reductions in emissions.
The MSP continued:-
"I don't know how many trees they'll have to plant to make up for the cancellation of vital public projects such as the Edinburgh trams or Borders Railway, but perhaps Cabinet Members will soon need to look out their spades."
