Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, has today expressed disappointment that Tesco has withdrawn from The Food Train project in the South West of Scotland.
Jim Hume said:-
"The decision by Tesco to withdraw from the project is disappointing because for many it is a lifeline to the outside world, particularly those who are elderly, disabled or housebound for one reason or another.
The MSP continued:-
"The Food Train would operate on the basis that it would deliver shopping lists to Tesco who would then package up the groceries ready for pick up. The Food Train would then deliver the shopping to its various clients across Dumfries and Galloway.
"The project is funded by NHS Dumfries & Galloway and Dumfries and Galloway Council, and I have asked for confirmation that in light of this development the funding will still remain in place until such time as a new supplier is found.
"It's vital that the two authorities maintain funding despite this withdrawal by Tesco."
